It is own by an Asian woman originally from Borneo, Indonesia but married an American from New York. She designs her own clothing and has them made in Java.

She helped me find a black sheer cover with a really nice embroidery stitch along the neckline and sleeves. I got two covers. (I tend to misplace things.) I tried on her silk caftan tops that she said were hand painted by her sister Dena. I looked great in it. But I was not in the mood to buy more than I needed that day.

After I left her shop and headed home to the family I wondered what UD stood for. I could not come up with anything that made sense to plus size clothing. While I was watching Project Runway I realize could it be Upscale Designs? I was not plus size then. I was a large women, but not a 3x. I have been thinking about getting back into playing tennis again because my son has shown an interest. It would be fun to hit the ball with him while he is off for the summer. I have sent him to a local tennis club that gives lessons 5 times a week. I drop him off and pick him up an hour later.

The other day I arrived 15 minutes early to bring him home. I watched him play and he is good. So I thought I should do a mother and son bonding. I went to the sports store to find tennis clothing. Nothing! Not one shirt, blouse or skirt to be found in a 1x, 2x or 3x. I had to resort to buying a pair of mens long sweat pants and cutting them below the knee to make them into shorts. For a shirt I made due with a white tee I had. I felt sloppy.

I do not know why designers forget about us plus size women. But then I was not even thinking about a designer tennis outfit, just a decent sports dress to wear.

Anyway, I then got a new pair of sneakers and tennis balls. My son was shocked when I came back to pick him up because I said, --Want to hit a couple?-- He smiled and said, --sure thing!--

Going Green in Aqua

My office is going green this summer. We are moving to a 4-day work week, and even better, we get to wear anything we want (within reason of course) every Thursday. My boss hopes that less work clothes will be sent to the cleaners, which will reduce chemical waste and electricity. She is a fantastic woman who dresses very classic but casual. I wonder what she will wear on Thursday, probably a sleeveless shirt with a khaki short and smart belt.

So, Wednesday night I went through my plus size clothing in order to put together a tasteful look and something flattering. I found an off-the-shoulder blouse in aqua and a pair of white capri pants, simple and machine washable.

When I went into work the next day, I got so many compliments. I forgot how nice aqua looks on me. I think the last time I wore that top it was on a boat outing with friends. We went whale watching on Long Island, New York. It was great fun! Well I definitely love this --choose your clothing day--. I have lots of plus size tops, shirts and pants to pick from. Maybe I will go online and treat myself to a new fashion or make a bid on eBay!

Plus Size Beachwear: Making Cover-Ups New

I was looking around for some plus size clothing to take on my winter vacation to Florida. I got a week off and hubby wanted to go to Tampa. I like going to the beach but I feel sort of uncomfortable with my body exposed in a one-piece bathing suit. I am not a sun lover but adore getting into the ocean than a pool. Hubby is pretty cool about my size. He likes to see me in color but most of the time I wear black. I tend to accessorize myself in color (shoes, jewelry and belts). I have had this plus size beach dress forever and cannot find anything to replace it. So I decided to buy some fabric and take it to my tailor. What a good idea! I love my new beach cover-up! I know that I will feel confident on my trip and really enjoy feeling special. Wow thinking big works! Oh by the way the fabric was a soft pastel blue (it matches my eyes!).

Butter me Up!

I really like to have a nice meal at a restaurant. It's the whole dining out experience that I like. It can, however, be slightly unpleasant for a plus size woman. I really hate when the waiter looks at me with a strange look when I ask for more butter. I never butter my foods at home, however, I always find it a treat to give myself a little something extra when I eat out. I feel like I have saved it up! Actually I was winning big time! I was feeling relaxed and appreciated by my friends. I was mentioning to them I had recently been working out with a trainer to strengthen my muscles and tone up. When Veronica outwardly said, yes you look more sculpted but you are still fat-. I was so hurt. She was rude and apparently taking out on me her increase of weight about the stomach. I wanted to immediately hide, but instead I said, -- Have another Pringle? And I contemplated how to get even.

As the scrabble game progressed I laid out a non-verbal response to Veronica. I cleverly placed down the word hypocrisy. No one noticed. Later using Veronicas own scrabble word sized I added over to make oversized. Still no one said anything.

Then the one that hit the fan. Veronica spelled sensitive and with a slight hesitation I added to the front of her scrabble word the letter I and then the letter -n- and spelled, -insensitive-.

Everyone got it, except Veronica. Then I thought, hmmm, obviously. I am plus size and I am clever. I had one today. I would accomplish one project, and before I knew it another popped up! Going home from a packed, crazy day like today usually gives me a heavy feeling as I am always thinking about that one project or task I need to complete. Well not today! I am making sure that I do not bring my day home! I want to be able to kick back and enjoy the weekend!

I decided on my way home that I would stop at the local boutique and treat myself to some beautiful new plus size clothing! I had received a little extra in my paycheck, and instead of paying those pesky bills, I decided to treat myself. A nice new blouse and a plus size skirt would make the weekend seem that much nicer! After all, I have a big date with my husband and need to look smashing!!

I walked into the boutique and as usual the lady who runs it greeted me with a warm smile and my day melted away. I headed straight for the plus size section. I just love the way these clothes make me feel. Yes, I spend a little more than at the local stores, but hey, I am worth it! I chose a beautiful light green long sleeve blouse with a very subtle pattern. I decided with this blouse I would try on a pair of black pants and a skirt. After trying on both, I realized the pants were the way to go. The pants gave me a slimmer line that made me feel gorgeous!

I left the boutique that day feeling so happy and mellow. I was truly ready for the weekend! I kept thinking about how I would look in this plus size outfit when my husband saw me! I know he likes me no matter what I wear, but I have to say, I look so fashionable in this plus size outfit I know I will turn heads!

Thinking Big: And not settling for less!

The Cotton Crop GF6650CTOR The Cotton Crop is a cute little top for women from plus sizes 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x

It is funny I am 5 ft. 4 inches and weigh 220 lbs. I am big. Ok plus size, however I feel small inside. Even when I look into the mirror adjusting my clothing, I believe I am looking at a smaller version of myself. It is funny I have always felt that way, until recently.

You see, my friend has a small pool and he is great at maintaining the waters clarity. Recently the pool developed a small algae problem, which he found difficult to solve. He was talking to me beside the pool about his dilemma with his apartment rental tenant who wanted to pay a small amount every three months and not one big lump sum for the year (which was the original contract). The more he talked to me about this the more he realized that he was dealing with small issues rather than the big picture. He compared his inner conflict with the pool. He had tried small dosages of pool chemicals when it really needed to have a complete big overhaul.

I saw him the other day and he told me the tenant had moved out. I said, What? He told me he had talked to his tenant and told him it was not working out for the two of them. He recommended an apartment close by he could rent by the month. Shortly after that an older couple, friends of his parents were in town and needed an apartment (his apartment is in 1 block from the city hospital) while the husband was going through chemotherapy. They signed a year contract and paid in advance. I was thinking perfect timing or bigger thinking.

How is the pool?, I said and he replied, Crystal clear! I believe clothes are not just a cover but a reflection of taste and of course mood. It is the perception of oneself that is the key ingredient to making it. I love the way I look and feel most days! Especially today. And stick and stones may break my bones -------- but not today.

Thursday was shopping day and I drove to the local organic food co-op. I made my way through the store, talked to the regulars and loaded up my cart. I really like to go food shopping at the co-op. Its a challenge to find low fats, no sugar added foods. (However I would much rather be shopping for new clothes - specially a 2x shirt or blouse!) So I took my cart full of fresh veggies and fruits and cage free eggs to the register and paid the check-out clerk.

Upon leaving the store, I headed straight to my car. Usually I make a stop by the thrift store because I can find a garment that fits, but not today. As I pushed my cart, enjoying a surprisingly warm day, the wheel of the cart stumbled on a rock. Some of my food fell to the ground, and I realized the little rock had caused this. I moved the rock and to my surprise the 7 grain bread had fallen out and I had run over it with the cart. Instead of heading back to the co-op to replace it, I decide to just throw it away and continue on. It was such a nice day! Nothing was going to get in my way ....... not even a rock in a soft place.
Stitch In Time GF2276IKXL The Stitch In Time for women looks for plus size clothing features our memorable stitching technique.

Getting to the Otherside

"Secretly Chic Knit Jacket" GF9907ACBK Our 5'6"model is a size 20 or 1x and she is wearing a M/L.

Recently, my dermatologist removed several large potentially cancerous moles from my chest. Normally, I would look into the mirror only after I was dressed and make some quick clothing adjustments. Then out the door! Now - undressed - I really had to look at myself in the mirror so I could easily change the bandages.

At first when I looked in the mirror at myself I was definitely uncomfortable. As I learned to look -in- and not -at- I soon discovered something great. It was me. As I gave myself more time to select clothes for the day I made better choices. And I started feeling good.

Suddenly friends said (which I thought was silly at the time), -There is something different about you? And I was thinking -yes- I have four less moles and? I like to find a 'quiet time' - a lull in the day when hubby and son are doing their own thing. I definitely am not a writer by far, but its fun to put my thoughts down on paper.

The other day I drove by Curves (a gym for plus size women - I think). I thought about going in but I went to the wine shop instead. I had so much fun reading all the different blends. My friend Ana has successfully taught me about the ART of WINE, but I get a little shy about picking one out. First the aisles in some stores are just not wide enough to accommodate a pear shaped, plus size woman like me. I have wide hips and surely don't want to knock a $50 bottle of red wine to the ground. It's the worst in the winter since I wear a winter jacket with a thick sweater under it and then my purse. Men never think of this! So if you want me to buy a good bottle of wine, then give me a runway I can walk down!

So that day I decided it would be the front row of wines. Thanks to the Goddess of Plus Size, there was a register at the entrance and the exit. I took my new Shiraz and headed home. Hubby and I were celebrating our 2nd anniversary of a smoke free home! I am proud, I did it. Yes I gained some weight, and I went from a plus size 1x to 2x. However, over the past 8 months I have taken off the weight and now I am back to a size 18 and smokeless. So we are going to toast our accomplishment with a Shiraz and kick back and watch the Biggest Losers!

Nice Weekend - Lost and Found

I had a great weekend away from work. It was just me and the family. I love it when my husband makes pancakes on Saturday morning. Sometimes in the summer he buys these really over sized blueberries and adds them to the batter. Yummie! So I woke up, pulled on my favorite lounging caftan, and helped him out heating up some butter.

After our late breakfast, I went around the house and collected our laundry. I don't mind it so much. It's kind of fun to know in a hour you have fresh clean clothes. As I was separating the whites from the darks, I found a blouse that had fallen between our washer and dryer. I had forgotten all about the short top. It was a cotton crop top that I purchased from an online store for plus size women. Whew! It was only misplaced, not lost. I threw it into the dark clothing and washed it.

Later that day we decided to take a trip into town to pick up picture hangers for some artwork my son made last year, and other stuff at the hardware store that the hubby wanted. I seem to space out at those places so I told the boys I would meet them at the car. I popped into the cutest boutique shop in town with all these whimsical birthday cards and pillows. I actually found an $18 beaded necklace that fit around my neck and matched that Lost & Found cotton crop top. Wow! What luck. And then as I was browsing, the boys called me on my cell phone and said they had been waiting at the car. They wanted me back so they could get back to the hockey game. Well, ok. I found a great birthday card for my girlfriend Sarah about having your cake and eating it too. She is a little plus size too. I love her! She always tells me "honey there is more to love!".

When I got home I went to the laundry room. That missing crop top was clean and fresh again. I took it upstairs and put it on with my new necklace. I looked fantastic! I really know how to match my look with my taste. The hockey game continued and then I made dinner. I kept thinking there was a winner inside of me.

Saturday Night Riot

On a busy day with a calm mind, I finally realize that I'm in control of everything in my life, including relationships. Speaking of relationships, I just can't stop thinking about what happened last Saturday when I was spending time out with some friends.

It all starts with plans to go to a new club opening party. A few friends and I decided to reserve a lounge at this new club and spend a wonderful evening out with our guys. We are all talking and having fun when we decided to order some drinks and food. We all looked smashing with our stylish clothes, including my plus sized friend Mel, who always wears the newest and greatest fashions.

We were laughing and talking and having just a wonderful evening when it happened! Somebody rushed into the room with a drink in her hand. It lasted all of about 3 seconds and Mel's guy Patrick was wearing the lady's drink. We tried to figure out who this lady was but as quickly as she came, she was gone again. It all happened pretty fast. While Mel was trying to find out from Patrick who this lady was, the rest of us were amused with the whole event. To this day, we still have no idea who that woman was. We figured it was a mistake since she was in and out in a flash!

Committed without commitment

I found myself on the way to becoming a couch potato. Imagine me sitting on the couch eating and watching TV. While that did not make me a plus size woman, I find myself enjoying these activities. My best friends and relatives will never complain about the way I live my life. They know I am a hard worker and a brilliant writer.

My cousin Susan from Hawaii sent me an adorable sun dress that was 2 sizes too small. I thought about a smaller me fitting into this sun dress. I decided to put the dress down in the box and went about my daily routine. After several days of going through my regular routine, I stopped and looked at the dress. I started to wonder if I could really fit in this dress. After much thought, I decided I can do this. I can get off that couch, get rid of those snacks and strive for something better. I start replacing my couch time with busy work. For some women, the weather makes it difficult to find that fabulous look. In cold weather, everyone needs to wear boots, scarves, cardigans, jumpers, and thick and heavy outwear. For some young women, this clothing can be fun. They can mix and match items for that sophisticated look even though they are layered in clothes. For a plus size woman like me, those items tend to be more annoying than fun. I tend to have a "heavy look" even before I wear something thick.

Then I found a material that is light but warm, and 'voila', I succeeded in making a fashion formula. I only need to apply a simple top and a jumper! I look sophisticated, which is becoming the most important expression in the fashion world. I both need and want to look sophisticated, not only to impress people but for self-satisfaction. Young girls, eager and sure, talk among themselves, while their clothes tell me that they are in their senior year of college. College graduation will come soon.

It's odd to think that not long ago; I too was excited about the future while having the time of my life. I remember how Marie said jokingly at the office a few weeks ago, "I want to have fun, I'm going to go back to school again!" I too, like everyone else who heard her remark, understand completely what she meant.

For a quick second I catch a last glimpse of those young girls before the subway comes and replaces them with a reflection of myself on its window. I too was once like them, an attractive woman enjoying life who was blessed by God with a plus size body. So for me and my women friends, there is only one thing that is worth doing over the weekend. Shopping!!! Hey come on... we need the perfect clothes for the season, don't we? We know we are blessed to be beautiful and sexy plus size women!

So this past weekend, my friends and I decided to go shopping. We were hunting for the perfect outfit, and when we arrived at the mall, we headed right for the plus size department. I saw the most beautiful simple yet sexy dress in the most fascinating grey. I could not seem to take my eyes off of it. Most women would choose black and white colors for the fall, but when I saw this dress, I thought to myself, I should wear shades of in between.

So, I grabbed the dress before anyone else could grab it and went over to the fitting rooms. When I saw my reflection in the mirror, I saw a sexy woman looking back at me. I imagined my husband looking at me with approval and well you know, I decided I was worth it. I decided to buy the dress. I headed over to the cashier, and when I reached the cashier, I found the dress was a bit expensive (I never bothered to look at the price tag). When I imagined my husband looking at me with approval (and well you know!), I decided I was worth it.

Does It?

The media has its own way to possess our mind with a lot of paradigm seed, regardless of its possibilities to do us good or bad. We have the ability to push ourselves to the best to pick "which thought is good for us". I just read this article about "How Women Should Act When Their Men are Just Beyond Our Radar". Each word tells more and more of stylish 'women empowerment', but one line tickles my senses. It is said that "size shouldn't matter that much". The moment I read this is the moment of this little mystification!

The fact of the matter is that I'm a big woman of plus size. If I wasn't, I wouldn't concern myself on this 'size doesn't matter' thing. I looked at my clothes hanging outside my closet comparing them to those skinny model images. I was like: "whatever, size does matter". Not that I'm being skeptical on how attractive big women are, but I have this idea of what men really see. So one day, I walk into a giant shopping center in the city, and I see a man with a big wife. He was pushing the cart (like men should do) and his eyes flirted to a hot lady passing by. I saw that immediately. So this means to me, 'size does matter' regardless of how much.

It is not like I'm skeptical and look down on myself, but it's just a way of accepting what's surrounding us.

What to wear in hot weather?

I wish I had central air conditioning or at least enough money and time to spend the summer at some exotic beach. But since I have neither of those...

Hot weather can really make me feel uncomfortable. I really admire athletes; anyone who can think clearly with their head and win something while baking in the hot heat of the summer is definitely worth my respect. While me? IMHO, heat and sweat don't rhyme with thinking and wining; they rhyme with beat and wet.

But I can't help to draw a parallel (an off-beat one for sure) between fabric used in athletes' gear and the fabric used in plus size clothes. Despite the difference in size and function, both tend to lean towards fabrics that breathe. Baseball players with their cotton jersey, runners with their tight polyester-like outfit, and even NASCAR racers would insist on something that won't dehydrate them. Must I also mention that a Sumo wrestler is naked as well? The parallel would probably be lost on that, though.

What a weird train of thought. I better do something about this heat. In the meantime, if someone asked me what to wear on a hot day like this; I would probably say a fan - plus size preferably!

Finding Pants for Plus Size Woman

Finding the right pants can be hard. For starters, you don't have to directly deal with the big question that plagues the entire plus size fashion - does it look good? Will it make me look better than I really am? As a rule, pants are strictly about freedom of movement, it all boils down to being able to move around physically and not having your clothes restrain your activities.
Pants are always nice, they never exceed that line and become beautiful. When choosing to wear something that looks attractive below the waist line, chances are you are going to opt for a pair of shoes. The only time I can imagine someone noticing your pants is when you don't have them on you. :)
Anyway, I consider myself lucky when it comes to selecting plus size pants. The way I am built I need fabrics that breathe. This more or less rules out denim and blue jeans from my choice of pants. I do have to be very picky when it comes to their design though, I don't want to look like I'm about to go to the office when attending a casual party.
But then again, I do love challenges, especially one where I'll end up looking smart and feeling good about myself.

AN ATTRACTIVE OLD FRIEND

Two months ago, I met accidentally with my old friend, Jenny. She was my classmate in high school. We had not been in touch for almost ten bloody years. Wow... It was amazing how much she could change in those years. She is definitely more prosperous but hmmm... seems larger. Well, I have to admit that my body is not slim either. Since having two kids, I became plus size too!

However, when I saw her, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Jenny was one of the favorite, most attractive girls in our high school. Her slim body always made me jealous through the high school years. What surprised me was how gorgeous she still was particularly with regard to her clothes. She was wearing a light blue dress that suited her so well, that she looked as adorable as she had 10 years previously, even though her body had changed dramatically.

I could not help my self - I was jealous of her appearance. I always have difficulties in finding great fitting clothes in my size that look stylish and adorable. I noticed that my body was actually not so different from hers, but she still looked so much more attractive because of her fabulous outfit. When we talked, I couldn’t stop asking her where she managed to find such gorgeous clothes in her size.

Fortunately for me, she generously told me how to choose the perfect clothes for our body size. She taught me how to dress so I could still look attractive even though I do not have a slim and ideal body. However, the best advice Jenny was able to share with me was that no matter what kind of clothes I chose, I have to feel comfortable with what is under the clothing, me. Well, I aspire to be as attractive as Jenny and try to imitate her positive body image, even though I am not nearly as slim as a model.

THE TALE OF CLOTHES

Sometimes, when I have nothing to do, I love to just lie down and let my imagination come alive, especially when I feel distressed about my recent weight increase. It is the worst nightmare ever having to attend a party of any kind, not having any idea which clothes make you look good enough to mingle and fit in among other pretty and attractive women. It is hard to find attractive clothes in my size. It often seems as though designers only make a clothes for skinny and ideal sized women only. It is so very challenging!

Therefore, when I lie down, I start to wonder why clothes should play be such a huge part in our lives, especially for women. I remember one story from the Bible concerning the first human, Adam.

Once upon a time, God wanted to create one creature that could control all creatures on earth. Therefore, he made the first man in the world, Adam and put him in The Garden of Eden. Adam lived happily at that time. Soon, he began to feel lonely. So God decided to create a woman for Adam – Eve. At that time they were totally naked, neither feeling shy or embarrassed.

But the devil did not like this. He did not like to see God caring so much about Adam and Eve. Therefore, he decided to seduce Adam and Eve by encouraging them to eat the forbidden fruit, even though God already told them to not touch it.

When Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, suddenly they began to feel shyness and embarrassment. They realized that they were naked and started to grab leaves to cover their body. And thus the first clothes appeared in the world.

Well, I have a recurring silly thought. If Eve had not been seduced into eating the forbidden fruit, we would not have the problems and difficulties in finding clothes that fit our bodies today! Yeah....it’s just a silly thought....but ….

JUDGES COME IN PINT SIZES

People say that children should not lie; they must be honest and truthful above all else. I always ask my 5-year-old son, Jeremy, about my newest style, or his views on any new clothes I buy. I have to admit that it is very rare that I can find good clothes with a good fit for my full size body. Recently I have put on more then a few extra pounds, so right now I am overweight.

In the past when I would buy a new dress, I would ask Jeremy for his approval or at least his agreement that he thought Mommy looked pretty. I was never sure if Jeremy understood completely what I was trying to ask. Mostly he answered by shaking his head or continuing to nod; Just those two actions, nothing more. It was funny to see.

I remember, last month, I asked him about my appearance before going to the wedding party of a friend. Every time I tried something different on, I asked him, did mom look pretty? Unfortunately he kept shaking his head, so I decided to change and wear something different, but he still kept shaking his head. So I changed my clothes again until finally he nodded his head. He helped me so much. However, since I put on weight, Jeremy always shakes his head when I ask him how I look. It is difficult to get perfect clothes for my recently fuller sized body.

So, here I am trying to find great clothes that can make my son nod his head when I ask him about my appearance. I know for sure that if he nods his head when asked about my appearance, it must mean I look good in whatever it is I am wearing. His eyes seem so bright and innocent when they look at me, but I know they tell the truth.

So, if you want to know the honest truth about how you really look, even if only conveyed by a nod or a shake of the head, why don’t you try the same way as me? Why not try asking your own child if you really want to know the truth...
