Ahead of the Curve: Plus Health
A good fit for your plus size bra is very important to keep from developing poor posture and to prevent back pain. Every plus size woman knows that their breast sizes can fluctuate during certain times of their life, especially during pregnancy but also during menstruation. Ignoring the need for additional support can result in neck, back or shoulder pain. Eventually a woman's posture can be affected in a negative way due to wearing a bar that is too tight. Always remember to look for plus size bras that are on discount, whether online or at a local store, and purchase a few in different colors to match your exquisite fashion! Don't automatically think that the bra size that you first wore as a young woman will be the same during weight changes, menstruation, pregnancy and other periods of a woman's life. A proper fit will result in a generous, comfortable, and confident you!
I like necklines that are rounded. My girlfriend Linda likes blouses that have collars. I don't like plus size clothing that is around my neck. In fact my neck (front and back) is quite nice. Linda doesn't like the back of her neck and she wants to hide it. She is always wearing beautiful clothing. Linda tends to buy solids (black). I tried to get her to move into some other solid colors. She tried a somber violet and it was beautiful on her. I love solids too. Black of course hides some unwanted curves but daily is too much.
I am just starting to add brown and blues to my wardrobe. I recently bought a "v" neckline shirt (pull over). I have been getting lots of compliments. I guess it doesn't matter collar or no collar - its all about fashion and what feels good. So next time you go shopping move outside your comfort zone.
I just love it! Pantone has selected TEAL as the color for women's plus size clothing (well of course all sizes too, lol). I really like the color. It is refreshing and reminds me of clear Carribbean ocean water. Can I wear it everyday? Every week? Every month? Yes and No. I think when working with this color don't use a lot of it in your clothing. Find other coordinating plus size clothing that will accent it. Maybe a touch of teal around a women's blouse collar or maybe a touch at the cuff. But women do not need to go full target on the total color. However if you are wearing it as a beach cover then no problem. That is a great clothing selection. Be conscious about your clothes. You are not always looking at yourself but others are. Find things that compliment your skin tone and then where it to death!!!
I am definitely a textile girl. I love the feel of fabric. I am bringing this up because I have this thing about setting the table for Christmas. Just like how I shop for the perfect shirt and pant for my wardrobe; I do the same for napkins and tablecloths. Our local tabletop store has the most fantastic setting in their window. I pass it on the way to the grocery store just about every other day. Last week I parked and browsed. The tablecloth is a perfect linen evergreen color. They coordinated it with red linen napkins with bowtie gold napkin ring holders. It’s beautiful. I bought a set for six. I have one problem being a plus size woman the long scoop neck dress I plan to wear is a perfect color match with the tablecloth. Funny?! I think that is way to coordinated. I will look like a pajama set! I better find another plus size dress or change to pants!
Mary Poppins VS Mrs. Santa Claus for Plus Size Clothing?
Lasts week-end, my husband treated our family to a day in New York City. We took our son to see the Broadway show Mary Poppins. It was great fun watching it all over again. It took me back to my elementary school days. I remember wearing bright color dresses with rounded collars. My mom loved setting my hair into a ponytail. I looked like Barbie’s younger sister with brown hair and heavier! Funny as I got into my twenties I probably would have dressed like Peggy on Mad Men. I pretty much dress casually. I don’t like to make such a big fuss. Don’t get me wrong I like to shop for nice plus size clothing, but I have little patience coordinating the total ensemble on a daily basis.
Guess what?! Our event to New York City got me going. I became Miss Vogue. I thought I could use a new outfit for the holidays. I coordinated a pair of earrings I found at a local jewelers with my shoes and winter jacket. I found a long red velvet shirt to go with a top I already owned. By the time I was finished I was an updated version of Mrs. Santa Claus. I was just missing the big read lipstick. I am surely ready for Christmas Eve.
Plus Size Clothing Sense: AWARENESS FOR THE FASHIONISTA
It can be impossible to be perfect all the time, LOL! Most women browse through previous photos of themselves and think, "What ever possessed me to wear that plus size dress! What was I thinking back then?"
We are all fashionistas, but we also make fashion mistakes! Here are a few tips to help keep women in check of their plus size clothing failure!
1. Beware when you "Mix & Match" your plus size clothes! Many plus size woman think that buying a variety of styles and designs particularly on sale is a smart move. Sure, it saves you money but you can end up disappointed when you try to match these plus size clothes with what you have in your closet. So, you put it away in hopes of finding a plus size top or bottom that can coordinate with it, only to find out a year later that it's still hanging in the closet! Yes, I too have made the same mistake!
Don't get me wrong saving money on discounted clothing is great, BUT bring a top, bottom, or dress with you when you are shopping. Try them on together. Ask the sales women what she thinks. This is your chance to save and correctly "Mix & Match."
2. Fashion magazines and TV shows can bite us in the butt! Don't become a fashion victim! Read clothing reviews in Vogue or watch the "Fashion Police" for inspiration and creative combination's for putting together a plus size clothing wardrobe.
3. Many plus size woman cling to classic styles however, I suggest for the moment to put away your favorite pair of plus size jeans and replace them for a more updated plus size dress. For example, what I do when I want to update my look is simply add some color, like a scarf or a separate over my 3x dress. Simple touches will gain you compliments and visual style.
Keep in mind these simple tips when you confronting the "army" of your wardrobe. You are the commander-in-chief!!!Plus! I promise you that you'll always look fresh and updated in your clothes! Now march into your wardrobe! Your orders are to Mix and Match and send me a photo of you "before" and "now." Good-luck!
I was reading the other day that approximately 1 American discards more than 50 pounds of used clothing each year. The majority of clothing purchased in the USA is by women for women. Therefore there is a lot of regular and plus size women's clothing available for reuse, resale and recycling. In fact, only 5% of clothing ends up damaged and unwearable; the rest can be passed along to family, friends or given to nonprofit groups like the Salvation Army, Goodwill, Homeless Shelters and thousands of churches and organizations.
Perhaps you might be like me, "Oh I love that top! Sure I'm gonna wear it again!". I said that 5 years ago! So I suggest women of all sizes from small to plus - go through your closets and donate last year's top or dress. I know most of you women are busy and can't get to a physical location, however there are recycling bins. Today, most organizations have big metal bins located on parking lots at malls or gas stations. I recently bagged a dozen of my plus size blouses and when I was passing a big PINK bin for breast cancer I "dumped" my donation! In fact, Big Brothers and Sisters have a pick-up service for clothing. When I called, the volunteer told me they are lacking women's plus size clothing especially sizes 3x, 4x, and 5x. She then added, "Remember plus size women need clothes too! Go now! Recycle your unwanted loved ones!"
Women make a difference! Let's help other plus size ladies! Trust me, you'll feel great about it and always remember the "closet rule"; for every piece you buy, remove two pieces from your closet. Think about it - you will have room to shop for new clothes!
HALLOWEEN FOR PLUS SIZE WOMAN: Expose your Inner Goddess!!!
Halloween is coming up and I am super excited! This is my favorite time of the year because I love to dress up, put on makeup, and create a personality that reflects my costume. Still, if you're a plus size woman, you know it's not easy finding a costume. Simply walking into a store doesn't work because they hardly have our size. In fact, I have yet to see a costume in a size 3x from my local Halloween vendor. So, I eventually gathered some tips that I am sure you will benefit from.
1. Choose something comfortable. Just because it's an outfit for a night doesn't mean you should feel miserable wearing it.
2. Look for a flattering shape. Plus size woman can have curves too, you know!
3. Go all the way! It's all about character! Halloween night is about being someone else!
4. Pick a costume you'll enjoy! Choosing a costume only because it fits you won't make your night a fun one. Take your time in picking a plus size woman costume that you love and are going to enjoy flaunting it all night long!
Woman's plus size Halloween costumes don't have to be boring or unexciting. Plus size woman can pull of some cool outfits, such as pirate women, princesses, goddesses and even referees. Take your time in finding the perfect plus size outfit this Halloween and have a fun filled night full of laughs!
It's my birthday and I can cry if I want to, cry if I want to. Do you remember this song? That's right, it's my birthday! I don't know about you but I don't mind getting older. Another year means 365 days of achievements and accomplishments. Plus, my husband is taking me out to a fantastic Bistro restaurant.
I'm a women who wears a size 3x, so it's not easy to find plus size clothing that fits me well. Last week, I went on a hunt to find the perfect plus size dress. Sadly, I wasn't able to find any clothes that were in my plus size. So, I went on a mission to find a women's plus size dress on the internet.
After viewing many online stores, none of them made an impression on me. Then I went back to our site GenerousFashions.com! Not only do I love the name (I am generous in all the right places!) but this online store has a plus size chart as well that fits 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x. I quickly ran to the master bedroom, grabbed a measuring tape, and asked my husband to "size" my curves! Needless to say, he was more interested in goofing around and tickling me. Eventually, I had my measurements and went online shopping! I found a baby blue dress with shades of brown/purple tints. It was the perfect plus size outfit! I bought it! In fact, I had the perfect blue shoes to go with it! I am goooooood!
I received my new plus size women's dress in the mail the other day - tried it on and I thought, "Lisa you look STUNNING!!!" Later that night as I walked into the Bistro with my husband I squeezed his hand and said, "Honey, this is going to be the best 32nd Birthday!". He kissed me and wished me many more! I am so lucky!
The average U.S. woman is around 5'4" and 164 pounds, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. So what does this mean and what are plus size clothing stores going to do about it? Apparently as of today women's purchases of regular sizing is down 5.1% and plus size is down 9.5%. Is this due to women not wanting to spend? Perhaps there are few choices for women's plus size clothing that does not have quality spelled ALL over it. I think there are many online stores that sell everyday regular clothing that does not hold up to cycles of washing. Fine. Sometimes, I am on a budget other times I am not. Often I get the feeling I really do not want to replace replace replace. Buying quality is an investment and saves money in the end. When you want to look great select smart classic designs. Don't compromise. It's ok to pay less for clothes you wear around the house but not for special occasions or work. Buy a great separate and layer it with a lesser value tank. This keeps you looking updated and sharp! Now off you go!
10 tips for better breast health: 1. Always wear a bra of right size and right shape. 2. While choosing a bra never ignore soreness and swelling that it may cause. 3. Get rid of your "breast binding habits" Do not wear bra for more than 12 hours a day. 4. Never sleep in your bra. This way you can avoid breasts cancer. 5. If your breasts have developed lumps, cysts and tenderness then do not get alarmed. Get rid of your bra for most of the times and soon those symptoms will vanish. 6. Regular breasts massage, bicycle riding, vitamins, and minerals improve your breasts health. 7. Whenever you pull away your bra massage your breasts for a while and breathe deeply. 8. Drink purified water. It may also improve your breasts health a lot. 9. Never wear a tight bra. Whenever possible wherever possible be braless. 10. Take it off at home.. Let your breasts bounce and move freely. Every bounce and every movement gently massages the breasts and increases lymphatic flow.
Plus Size Clothing and the Stores: Sizing for Generous Women
I was flipping through the newspaper (like all villages there is always that free one) and saw an ad for a womens plus size clothing store. I read it twice because I thought I was wrong. I immediately clipped it out and put it into my purse. Of course I forgot about it until I was looking for a receipt. Again I re-read it ........ "We offer 1x-5x!" So I took a ride down to the store and walked in. The fabrics we ok and the styles basic. When I picked up a 3x I was disappointed. There is no way this was a 3x maybe an XL. I just think so many designers or the boss just don't get it. There are real women with real figures who have money and want nice fitting clothes. They are places like L.B. but really I am not 16 anymore. Generous Fashions has added a new size chart. It is longer and wider. Thank you!
Oh, buy the way I left the new store after purchasing 2 snuggies!

I have spent Valentines Day washing laundry, making breakfast, making beds, and finishing up the grocery list. On my way home from IGA grocery I went into the local wine shop to pick up a bottle of Merlot. My friend Ana was working. We had not spoken since her breast cancer awareness bike ride through New England. She is a two time survivor. She is not plus size. She loves what I am wearing today. It's a red knit pull-over with zipper sleeves and hand sewn red glitter around the neckline. I am wearing it for my husband who had gone online to a plus size store to get it for me years ago. I love it and his thoughtfulness.
Ana wraps the Merlot in a red Mylar bag tied with white twisted yarn. It is a surprise for hubby. We are gonna have dinner at home with my son. I made an angel food cake for my boys! Plus I have added some red hot heart shape candies on top of the white icing. I bought a t-shirt for my son that says "You are my #1 Angel", love mom. For my husband I got him a pair of pink and red heart pattern boxer shorts! But his serious gift is me! I found this trendy online plus size womens store a month again. I secretly had it sent to our mailbox. He gets to open it up! What's inside says "whoever breaks the seal of this box is responsible for its consequences". Its a dvd of an episode of Happy Valentine Charlie Brown's and a lacy nightgown. I just wonder which one he will have me put on first!
I arrived the other day at the neurologist for the first time. I have some numbness in my feet. I was a bit concerned because as a plus size woman and not familiar with the staff or the doctor I wasn't sure how I would be perceived. In fact, I know nothing about pain centers or treatment. After checking in I combed the magazines for something to read. Nothing but a National Geographic on crystals and the rest of the reading material was about pain. I picked up Pain Pathways magazine because Elizabeth Edwards was on the cover. I had no idea she had had breast cancer. I knew she is the wife of John Edwards. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer but she had not experience much pain but stress, fear and mortality. I started to think about emotional pain vs physical pain. I remember as a teenager I was critical about my appearance because I was a heavy teen. Does being plus size make it less important because it is not immediate life threatening vs cancer? I was thinking pain is pain - it hurts. What I loved about Elizabeth Edwards is she moved beyond her pain and has written several books on overcoming challenges. I was in the doctor's office to have a test which would emit electricity into my feet to determine nerve ending damage. I realized the fear I had and the pain I had now and as a teen was nothing compared to others. I heard my name called and walked proudly to the examining room.
Miracle on the Hudson is truly a miracle. I just cannot imagine being a plus size woman and trying to navigate the aisles and into a flotation device. Due to my size I don't swim well and that would have been a problem. I think its amazing everyone got out in a safe and reasonable manner. I have to fly next month and I would love to have that pilot flying my aircraft! I know that they are trained to handle emergencies however it takes skill and confidence to handle something like this.
It was really great to hear some good news! Plus it was a human event with heroes and saving lives. (How did all those survivors who were interviewed on talk shows cope so quickly. I would have been a total mess!)
What is important is lives were saved. People lived. Time is so precious.
I was watching Opray last night. It was about "outing" yourself as a plus size women who lost weight and then regained. Yeeks. I was a little taken back by the show. As a 2x plus size women I am not sure if I want to "out" myself or even have someone else do that for me. I love my body and the way it is. I have curves, so what. My family loves me no matter if I am a size 14 or 22. This is such an obsession to lose weight in this country. I think its about good nutrition, balance mind, and an active life. Let's look at the great things we have accomplished and the new ones to come. 2009 is just fine!
I have been watching video postings on youtube lately. I usually go for the comic ones. But today I did a search for plus size clothing and found a posting by a 24 year old. More than half my age! She was venting that there are no choices for plus size women. I was astonished to learn that the brand womens clothing manufacturers were not addressing her issues. And she doesn't like a good fur trim! I guess I am losing touch with the younger generation and that has inspired me to get rid of my baggage. I gonna listen better. Learn more. She is right though. Clothes are an expression of you and how you feel about yourself. Being plus size should not be limiting no matter what age. I do no have a daughter but if I did it would be so much fun to go shopping together. I would want her to find clothing that matches her. It's a small world after all? Not really. It is a big world with bold, bright, beautiful women.
Diamonds Ranked Behind: Finding the Jewels of Plus Size Clothing
There are more online plus size clothing stores than ever before. I am always looking for new women's clothing. It's a game for me to find great clothing. What is really odd some of the online plus size stores have up to 3 o 4 stores but with different names. They tend to clog up the search engines causing the smaller plus size stores and better women's stores to fall behind.
I now just go to page three of my google search for: plus size clothing. It's there I can find the smaller boutiques that actually produce clothing up to 9x! Also I have noticed that the ranking plus size clothing stores cater to 16-30 year old girls.
You know there was a time my arm muscle had muscle but over time gravity has taken over and the muscle has been heading south, if you know what I mean. Plus, I don't want to show off my tummy line. And you wants to wear thin tight printed lycra? Not my first choice in plus size clothing.
I want quality artistic detailing fashions that fit! Why is that so difficult? I have tons of ideas for design but I can't sew or make patterns. So take the time search the net of plus size clothing and you will be able to find some great clothing!
Sometimes American pop culture drives me nuts. I usually discount 99% of what I hear however the most recent news about Sarah Palin just threw me off the cliff. Hollywood is actually considering to give her a talk show. A moose shooting plus a hockey mom goes on daily TV. Listen, if that happens, I am going to Hollywood and ask for the first Plus Size Womens talk show hosts position. Why not? I have not shot a deer but I have been a goalie, swim team captain and girl scout leader.
I never entered a spelling bee but did quite well on my English SATS. I was not on the debate team but I have spoken at village board meetings. And I actually led a weight watchers seminar.
I want to see a real womens face and body on a talk show. I want to hear from those ladies. I want to hear positive comments about living life large. I want to see plus size women modeling clothes for me. I want to hear success stories of women in power position that makes to this world. I am thinking big! And then Global.

I just came back from the doctor and I was informed that my LDL was too high. I was like what is that? Last Dance Ladies? She said your cholesterol is too high and explained it to me like this:
Cholesterol is a lipid, a type of fat found in the body. Having high BAD cholesterol means you have too much LDL in your blood. LDL is low-density lipoprotein, or BAD cholesterol.
Too much cholesterol in the blood, or high cholesterol, can be serious. People with high cholesterol are at risk of getting heart disease. This can lead to a heart attack or stroke.
Plus, only about 20% of cholesterol comes from the foods you eat. The other 80% is made by your body. Things such as age and family health history affect how much cholesterol your body makes.**
Ok, I thought I am going to tackle this head on. She told me to change my diet to see if I could bring the cholesterol down before I went on medication. I was told to READ FOOD LABELS.
1. No saturated fats or at least less that 7% a day 2. No trans Fat
The remaining fat she told me should come from sources of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats such as nuts, seeds, fish and vegetable oils; and limit cholesterol intake to less than 300 mg per day, for most people.
I can do this!
The next day I bought salmon, trout, herring, avocados, olives, walnuts, skinless chicken, locally grown string beans and lettuce, sunflower seeds, peanuts and sorbet (lemon and orange flavor). And switched from stick butter to soft margarine (well a plus woman needs her butter some of the time, really).
Day 1: great fun learning to combine foods Day 2: love the walnut salad Day 3: added a pear to the walnut salad Day 4: trying to be creative with menu Day 5: Oops I went out to dinner but had a grilled chicken salad with olive oil dressing Day 6: I lost 2 pounds!
I like this! I gonna try to move a size down in clothing. Lets see, I will keep you posted.
It is the end of the summer plus it went way to quick for me. I accomplished what I wanted to do, -Have fun!- I have been working basically for 17 years non-stop. This summer we had a 4-day work week. I took off Wednesdays. I thought about taking off Friday, but then it would have become a family 3-day weekend. I needed 8 Wednesdays off to do MY THING. And did I do it!
If I had to turn in a paper about July and August it would read like this - My Summer Vacation by a Plus Size Mother of One:
1. I read 14 books 2. I learned how to cook corn on the grill 3. I went to the beach more that 8 times (bought a new cover up) 4. I bought fresh veggies 3 times a week 5. I learned how to make a Mojito with vodka 6. I played scrabble with my son 7. I went to 3 matinee movies with my son and his friends 8. I took a nap! 9. And I finally cleaned out my clothing closet of All those awful plus size mistakes.
I had a great summer! I learned a lot about myself, which is -don’t ever forget to take care of yourself- No one can do it better than you!
I found a fantastic bathing suit cover up from a lovely plus size clothing shop called UDs Fashions. It is own by an Asian woman originally from Borneo, Indonesia but married an American from New York. She designs her own clothing and has them made in Java.
She helped me find a black sheer cover with a really nice embroidery stitch along the neckline and sleeves. I got two covers. (I tend to misplace things.) I tried on her silk caftan tops that she said were hand painted by her sister Dena. I looked great in it. But I was not in the mood to buy more than I needed that day.
After I left her shop and headed home to the family I wondered what UD stood for. I could not come up with anything that made sense to plus size clothing. While I was watching Project Runway I realize could it be Upscale Designs? I would like to think so!
Hi, Steve, I love my red jacket, I ordered for my daughter Julie's wedding. I so appreciated your help with choosing the right outfit to wear as the Mother of the Bride. As you can see in the picture with Julie and Robert, the red material looks gorgeous and I received many compliments on it. You were most helpful and patient with my concerns about picking out the perfect attire for the wedding.
Many thanks and blessings, Andrea
Dear Andrea,
It was my pleasure to work with you. I love what I am doing! Thanks for making my day!
When I was in high school, I loved playing tennis. I was not plus size then. I was a large women, but not a 3x. I have been thinking about getting back into playing tennis again because my son has shown an interest. It would be fun to hit the ball with him while he is off for the summer. I have sent him to a local tennis club that gives lessons 5 times a week. I drop him off and pick him up an hour later.
The other day I arrived 15 minutes early to bring him home. I watched him play and he is good. So I thought I should do a mother and son bonding. I went to the sports store to find tennis clothing. Nothing! Not one shirt, blouse or skirt to be found in a 1x, 2x or 3x. I had to resort to buying a pair of mens long sweat pants and cutting them below the knee to make them into shorts. For a shirt I made due with a white tee I had. I felt sloppy.
I do not know why designers forget about us plus size women. But then I was not even thinking about a designer tennis outfit, just a decent sports dress to wear.
Anyway, I then got a new pair of sneakers and tennis balls. My son was shocked when I came back to pick him up because I said, --Want to hit a couple?-- He smiled and said, --sure thing!--
My office is going green this summer. We are moving to a 4-day work week, and even better, we get to wear anything we want (within reason of course) every Thursday. My boss hopes that less work clothes will be sent to the cleaners, which will reduce chemical waste and electricity. She is a fantastic woman who dresses very classic but casual. I wonder what she will wear on Thursday, probably a sleeveless shirt with a khaki short and smart belt.
So, Wednesday night I went through my plus size clothing in order to put together a tasteful look and something flattering. I found an off-the-shoulder blouse in aqua and a pair of white capri pants, simple and machine washable.
When I went into work the next day, I got so many compliments. I forgot how nice aqua looks on me. I think the last time I wore that top it was on a boat outing with friends. We went whale watching on Long Island, New York. It was great fun! Well I definitely love this --choose your clothing day--. I have lots of plus size tops, shirts and pants to pick from. Maybe I will go online and treat myself to a new fashion or make a bid on eBay!
I was looking around for some plus size clothing to take on my winter vacation to Florida. I got a week off and hubby wanted to go to Tampa. I like going to the beach but I feel sort of uncomfortable with my body exposed in a one-piece bathing suit. I am not a sun lover but adore getting into the ocean than a pool. Hubby is pretty cool about my size. He likes to see me in color but most of the time I wear black. I tend to accessorize myself in color (shoes, jewelry and belts). I have had this plus size beach dress forever and cannot find anything to replace it. So I decided to buy some fabric and take it to my tailor. What a good idea! I love my new beach cover-up! I know that I will feel confident on my trip and really enjoy feeling special. Wow thinking big works! Oh by the way the fabric was a soft pastel blue (it matches my eyes!).
I really like to have a nice meal at a restaurant. It's the whole dining out experience that I like. It can, however, be slightly unpleasant for a plus size woman. I really hate when the waiter looks at me with a strange look when I ask for more butter. I never butter my foods at home, however, I always find it a treat to give myself a little something extra when I eat out. I feel like I have saved it up! Actually, I love the butter they serve at the Waffle House downtown because it is whipped. I also love the butter at Chez Pierre since it is not salty. Yes, I know it's fattening, horrible for the heart, etc., but I never ask for dessert.
GF2276 This Plus Size top features hidden buttons and comes in plus sizes 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x.
But now let me tell you the story of Veronica .......
I was playing scrabble at a friends house on Sunday and I really was enjoying myself. Actually I was winning big time! I was feeling relaxed and appreciated by my friends. I was mentioning to them I had recently been working out with a trainer to strengthen my muscles and tone up. When Veronica outwardly said, yes you look more sculpted but you are still fat-. I was so hurt. She was rude and apparently taking out on me her increase of weight about the stomach. I wanted to immediately hide, but instead I said, -- Have another Pringle? And I contemplated how to get even.
As the scrabble game progressed I laid out a non-verbal response to Veronica. I cleverly placed down the word hypocrisy. No one noticed. Later using Veronicas own scrabble word sized I added over to make oversized. Still no one said anything.
Then the one that hit the fan. Veronica spelled sensitive and with a slight hesitation I added to the front of her scrabble word the letter I and then the letter -n- and spelled, -insensitive-.
Everyone got it, except Veronica. Then I thought, hmmm, obviously. I am plus size and I am clever. Watch out!

Have you ever had one of those days where it seems it will never end? I had one today. I would accomplish one project, and before I knew it another popped up! Going home from a packed, crazy day like today usually gives me a heavy feeling as I am always thinking about that one project or task I need to complete. Well not today! I am making sure that I do not bring my day home! I want to be able to kick back and enjoy the weekend!
I decided on my way home that I would stop at the local boutique and treat myself to some beautiful new plus size clothing! I had received a little extra in my paycheck, and instead of paying those pesky bills, I decided to treat myself. A nice new blouse and a plus size skirt would make the weekend seem that much nicer! After all, I have a big date with my husband and need to look smashing!!
I walked into the boutique and as usual the lady who runs it greeted me with a warm smile and my day melted away. I headed straight for the plus size section. I just love the way these clothes make me feel. Yes, I spend a little more than at the local stores, but hey, I am worth it! I chose a beautiful light green long sleeve blouse with a very subtle pattern. I decided with this blouse I would try on a pair of black pants and a skirt. After trying on both, I realized the pants were the way to go. The pants gave me a slimmer line that made me feel gorgeous!
I left the boutique that day feeling so happy and mellow. I was truly ready for the weekend! I kept thinking about how I would look in this plus size outfit when my husband saw me! I know he likes me no matter what I wear, but I have to say, I look so fashionable in this plus size outfit I know I will turn heads!
The Cotton Crop GF6650CTOR The Cotton Crop is a cute little top for women from plus sizes 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x
It is funny I am 5 ft. 4 inches and weigh 220 lbs. I am big. Ok plus size, however I feel small inside. Even when I look into the mirror adjusting my clothing, I believe I am looking at a smaller version of myself. It is funny I have always felt that way, until recently.
You see, my friend has a small pool and he is great at maintaining the waters clarity. Recently the pool developed a small algae problem, which he found difficult to solve. He was talking to me beside the pool about his dilemma with his apartment rental tenant who wanted to pay a small amount every three months and not one big lump sum for the year (which was the original contract). The more he talked to me about this the more he realized that he was dealing with small issues rather than the big picture. He compared his inner conflict with the pool. He had tried small dosages of pool chemicals when it really needed to have a complete big overhaul.
I saw him the other day and he told me the tenant had moved out. I said, What? He told me he had talked to his tenant and told him it was not working out for the two of them. He recommended an apartment close by he could rent by the month. Shortly after that an older couple, friends of his parents were in town and needed an apartment (his apartment is in 1 block from the city hospital) while the husband was going through chemotherapy. They signed a year contract and paid in advance. I was thinking perfect timing or bigger thinking.
How is the pool?, I said and he replied, Crystal clear! Just like me.
I went home and thought about his luck or had he just read The Secret. I told myself to stop focusing on the smaller issues and think big. Small packages are easy to open but they take more time and effort. So, I am feeling my way out of my small skin and standing big, visible and plus size.
Living life large has its challenges. I know. I love my sister, she is of generous proportions.

Looking in the mirror and seeing a stylish plus sized woman makes me feel good about myself. I believe clothes are not just a cover but a reflection of taste and of course mood. It is the perception of oneself that is the key ingredient to making it. I love the way I look and feel most days! Especially today. And stick and stones may break my bones -------- but not today.
Thursday was shopping day and I drove to the local organic food co-op. I made my way through the store, talked to the regulars and loaded up my cart. I really like to go food shopping at the co-op. Its a challenge to find low fats, no sugar added foods. (However I would much rather be shopping for new clothes - specially a 2x shirt or blouse!) So I took my cart full of fresh veggies and fruits and cage free eggs to the register and paid the check-out clerk.
Upon leaving the store, I headed straight to my car. Usually I make a stop by the thrift store because I can find a garment that fits, but not today. As I pushed my cart, enjoying a surprisingly warm day, the wheel of the cart stumbled on a rock. Some of my food fell to the ground, and I realized the little rock had caused this. I moved the rock and to my surprise the 7 grain bread had fallen out and I had run over it with the cart. Instead of heading back to the co-op to replace it, I decide to just throw it away and continue on. It was such a nice day! Nothing was going to get in my way ....... not even a rock in a soft place. Recently, my dermatologist removed several large potentially cancerous moles from my chest. Normally, I would look into the mirror only after I was dressed and make some quick clothing adjustments. Then out the door! Now - undressed - I really had to look at myself in the mirror so I could easily change the bandages.
At first when I looked in the mirror at myself I was definitely uncomfortable. As I learned to look -in- and not -at- I soon discovered something great. It was me. In healing my skin back, I ended up nurturing my inner opinion of myself.
I stopped judging my ugly places that always left me feeling , One Day, and refocused my critical eye on what plus size clothing looked good on me. As I gave myself more time to select clothes for the day I made better choices. And I started feeling good.
Suddenly friends said (which I thought was silly at the time), -There is something different about you? And I was thinking -yes- I have four less moles and? What was coming through was my contentment. In healing myself I had actually come across to the otherside and I began to feel it.
I tend to write more on weekends than on the weekdays. I like to find a 'quiet time' - a lull in the day when hubby and son are doing their own thing. I definitely am not a writer by far, but its fun to put my thoughts down on paper.
The other day I drove by Curves (a gym for plus size women - I think). I thought about going in but I went to the wine shop instead. I had so much fun reading all the different blends. My friend Ana has successfully taught me about the ART of WINE, but I get a little shy about picking one out. First the aisles in some stores are just not wide enough to accommodate a pear shaped, plus size woman like me. I have wide hips and surely don't want to knock a $50 bottle of red wine to the ground. It's the worst in the winter since I wear a winter jacket with a thick sweater under it and then my purse. Men never think of this! So if you want me to buy a good bottle of wine, then give me a runway I can walk down!
So that day I decided it would be the front row of wines. Thanks to the Goddess of Plus Size, there was a register at the entrance and the exit. I took my new Shiraz and headed home. Hubby and I were celebrating our 2nd anniversary of a smoke free home! I am proud, I did it. Yes I gained some weight, and I went from a plus size 1x to 2x. However, over the past 8 months I have taken off the weight and now I am back to a size 18 and smokeless. So we are going to toast our accomplishment with a Shiraz and kick back and watch the Biggest Losers!
I had a great weekend away from work. It was just me and the family. I love it when my husband makes pancakes on Saturday morning. Sometimes in the summer he buys these really over sized blueberries and adds them to the batter. Yummie! So I woke up, pulled on my favorite lounging caftan, and helped him out heating up some butter.
After our late breakfast, I went around the house and collected our laundry. I don't mind it so much. It's kind of fun to know in a hour you have fresh clean clothes. As I was separating the whites from the darks, I found a blouse that had fallen between our washer and dryer. I had forgotten all about the short top. It was a cotton crop top that I purchased from an online store for plus size women. Whew! It was only misplaced, not lost. I threw it into the dark clothing and washed it.
Later that day we decided to take a trip into town to pick up picture hangers for some artwork my son made last year, and other stuff at the hardware store that the hubby wanted. I seem to space out at those places so I told the boys I would meet them at the car. I popped into the cutest boutique shop in town with all these whimsical birthday cards and pillows. I actually found an $18 beaded necklace that fit around my neck and matched that Lost & Found cotton crop top. Wow! What luck. And then as I was browsing, the boys called me on my cell phone and said they had been waiting at the car. They wanted me back so they could get back to the hockey game. Well, ok. I found a great birthday card for my girlfriend Sarah about having your cake and eating it too. She is a little plus size too. I love her! She always tells me "honey there is more to love!".
When I got home I went to the laundry room. That missing crop top was clean and fresh again. I took it upstairs and put it on with my new necklace. I looked fantastic! I really know how to match my look with my taste. The hockey game continued and then I made dinner. I kept thinking there was a winner inside of me.
On a busy day with a calm mind, I finally realize that I'm in control of everything in my life, including relationships. Speaking of relationships, I just can't stop thinking about what happened last Saturday when I was spending time out with some friends.
It all starts with plans to go to a new club opening party. A few friends and I decided to reserve a lounge at this new club and spend a wonderful evening out with our guys. We are all talking and having fun when we decided to order some drinks and food. We all looked smashing with our stylish clothes, including my plus sized friend Mel, who always wears the newest and greatest fashions.
We were laughing and talking and having just a wonderful evening when it happened! Somebody rushed into the room with a drink in her hand. It lasted all of about 3 seconds and Mel's guy Patrick was wearing the lady's drink. We tried to figure out who this lady was but as quickly as she came, she was gone again. It all happened pretty fast. While Mel was trying to find out from Patrick who this lady was, the rest of us were amused with the whole event. To this day, we still have no idea who that woman was. We figured it was a mistake since she was in and out in a flash!
I found myself on the way to becoming a couch potato. Imagine me sitting on the couch eating and watching TV. While that did not make me a plus size woman, I find myself enjoying these activities. My best friends and relatives will never complain about the way I live my life. They know I am a hard worker and a brilliant writer.
My cousin Susan from Hawaii sent me an adorable sun dress that was 2 sizes too small. I thought about a smaller me fitting into this sun dress. I decided to put the dress down in the box and went about my daily routine. After several days of going through my regular routine, I stopped and looked at the dress. I started to wonder if I could really fit in this dress. After much thought, I decided I can do this. I can get off that couch, get rid of those snacks and strive for something better. I start replacing my couch time with busy work. After a while, I realize the irony that a simple clothing mistake can make a change in any woman's life.
Every woman wants to look fabulous. For some women, the weather makes it difficult to find that fabulous look. In cold weather, everyone needs to wear boots, scarves, cardigans, jumpers, and thick and heavy outwear. For some young women, this clothing can be fun. They can mix and match items for that sophisticated look even though they are layered in clothes. For a plus size woman like me, those items tend to be more annoying than fun. I tend to have a "heavy look" even before I wear something thick.
Then I found a material that is light but warm, and 'voila', I succeeded in making a fashion formula. I only need to apply a simple top and a jumper! I look sophisticated, which is becoming the most important expression in the fashion world. I both need and want to look sophisticated, not only to impress people but for self-satisfaction. If I wear something fabulous and look classy while wearing it, I know it will be good for my health!
I was waiting for the subway on my way home from work, and some of the faces on the platform gave me a feeling of deja vu. Young girls, eager and sure, talk among themselves, while their clothes tell me that they are in their senior year of college. College graduation will come soon.
It's odd to think that not long ago; I too was excited about the future while having the time of my life. I remember how Marie said jokingly at the office a few weeks ago, "I want to have fun, I'm going to go back to school again!" I too, like everyone else who heard her remark, understand completely what she meant.
For a quick second I catch a last glimpse of those young girls before the subway comes and replaces them with a reflection of myself on its window. I too was once like them, an attractive woman enjoying life who was blessed by God with a plus size body. College was the best time of my life.
Fall is coming. So for me and my women friends, there is only one thing that is worth doing over the weekend. Shopping!!! Hey come on... we need the perfect clothes for the season, don't we? We know we are blessed to be beautiful and sexy plus size women!
So this past weekend, my friends and I decided to go shopping. We were hunting for the perfect outfit, and when we arrived at the mall, we headed right for the plus size department. I saw the most beautiful simple yet sexy dress in the most fascinating grey. I could not seem to take my eyes off of it. Most women would choose black and white colors for the fall, but when I saw this dress, I thought to myself, I should wear shades of in between.
So, I grabbed the dress before anyone else could grab it and went over to the fitting rooms. When I saw my reflection in the mirror, I saw a sexy woman looking back at me. I imagined my husband looking at me with approval and well you know, I decided I was worth it. I decided to buy the dress. I headed over to the cashier, and when I reached the cashier, I found the dress was a bit expensive (I never bothered to look at the price tag). When I imagined my husband looking at me with approval (and well you know!), I decided I was worth it.
The media has its own way to possess our mind with a lot of paradigm seed, regardless of its possibilities to do us good or bad. We have the ability to push ourselves to the best to pick "which thought is good for us". I just read this article about "How Women Should Act When Their Men are Just Beyond Our Radar". Each word tells more and more of stylish 'women empowerment', but one line tickles my senses. It is said that "size shouldn't matter that much". The moment I read this is the moment of this little mystification!
The fact of the matter is that I'm a big woman of plus size. If I wasn't, I wouldn't concern myself on this 'size doesn't matter' thing. I looked at my clothes hanging outside my closet comparing them to those skinny model images. I was like: "whatever, size does matter". Not that I'm being skeptical on how attractive big women are, but I have this idea of what men really see. So one day, I walk into a giant shopping center in the city, and I see a man with a big wife. He was pushing the cart (like men should do) and his eyes flirted to a hot lady passing by. I saw that immediately. So this means to me, 'size does matter' regardless of how much.
It is not like I'm skeptical and look down on myself, but it's just a way of accepting what's surrounding us.
I wish I had central air conditioning or at least enough money and time to spend the summer at some exotic beach. But since I have neither of those...
Hot weather can really make me feel uncomfortable. I really admire athletes; anyone who can think clearly with their head and win something while baking in the hot heat of the summer is definitely worth my respect. While me? IMHO, heat and sweat don't rhyme with thinking and wining; they rhyme with beat and wet.
But I can't help to draw a parallel (an off-beat one for sure) between fabric used in athletes' gear and the fabric used in plus size clothes. Despite the difference in size and function, both tend to lean towards fabrics that breathe. Baseball players with their cotton jersey, runners with their tight polyester-like outfit, and even NASCAR racers would insist on something that won't dehydrate them. Must I also mention that a Sumo wrestler is naked as well? The parallel would probably be lost on that, though.
What a weird train of thought. I better do something about this heat. In the meantime, if someone asked me what to wear on a hot day like this; I would probably say a fan - plus size preferably!
Finding the right pants can be hard. For starters, you don't have to directly deal with the big question that plagues the entire plus size fashion - does it look good? Will it make me look better than I really am? As a rule, pants are strictly about freedom of movement, it all boils down to being able to move around physically and not having your clothes restrain your activities. Pants are always nice, they never exceed that line and become beautiful. When choosing to wear something that looks attractive below the waist line, chances are you are going to opt for a pair of shoes. The only time I can imagine someone noticing your pants is when you don't have them on you. :) Anyway, I consider myself lucky when it comes to selecting plus size pants. The way I am built I need fabrics that breathe. This more or less rules out denim and blue jeans from my choice of pants. I do have to be very picky when it comes to their design though, I don't want to look like I'm about to go to the office when attending a casual party. But then again, I do love challenges, especially one where I'll end up looking smart and feeling good about myself.
Two months ago, I met accidentally with my old friend, Jenny. She was my classmate in high school. We had not been in touch for almost ten bloody years. Wow... It was amazing how much she could change in those years. She is definitely more prosperous but hmmm... seems larger. Well, I have to admit that my body is not slim either. Since having two kids, I became plus size too!
However, when I saw her, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Jenny was one of the favorite, most attractive girls in our high school. Her slim body always made me jealous through the high school years. What surprised me was how gorgeous she still was particularly with regard to her clothes. She was wearing a light blue dress that suited her so well, that she looked as adorable as she had 10 years previously, even though her body had changed dramatically.
I could not help my self - I was jealous of her appearance. I always have difficulties in finding great fitting clothes in my size that look stylish and adorable. I noticed that my body was actually not so different from hers, but she still looked so much more attractive because of her fabulous outfit. When we talked, I couldn’t stop asking her where she managed to find such gorgeous clothes in her size.
Fortunately for me, she generously told me how to choose the perfect clothes for our body size. She taught me how to dress so I could still look attractive even though I do not have a slim and ideal body. However, the best advice Jenny was able to share with me was that no matter what kind of clothes I chose, I have to feel comfortable with what is under the clothing, me. Well, I aspire to be as attractive as Jenny and try to imitate her positive body image, even though I am not nearly as slim as a model.
Sometimes, when I have nothing to do, I love to just lie down and let my imagination come alive, especially when I feel distressed about my recent weight increase. It is the worst nightmare ever having to attend a party of any kind, not having any idea which clothes make you look good enough to mingle and fit in among other pretty and attractive women. It is hard to find attractive clothes in my size. It often seems as though designers only make a clothes for skinny and ideal sized women only. It is so very challenging!
Therefore, when I lie down, I start to wonder why clothes should play be such a huge part in our lives, especially for women. I remember one story from the Bible concerning the first human, Adam.
Once upon a time, God wanted to create one creature that could control all creatures on earth. Therefore, he made the first man in the world, Adam and put him in The Garden of Eden. Adam lived happily at that time. Soon, he began to feel lonely. So God decided to create a woman for Adam – Eve. At that time they were totally naked, neither feeling shy or embarrassed.
But the devil did not like this. He did not like to see God caring so much about Adam and Eve. Therefore, he decided to seduce Adam and Eve by encouraging them to eat the forbidden fruit, even though God already told them to not touch it.
When Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, suddenly they began to feel shyness and embarrassment. They realized that they were naked and started to grab leaves to cover their body. And thus the first clothes appeared in the world.
Well, I have a recurring silly thought. If Eve had not been seduced into eating the forbidden fruit, we would not have the problems and difficulties in finding clothes that fit our bodies today! Yeah....it’s just a silly thought....but ….
People say that children should not lie; they must be honest and truthful above all else. I always ask my 5-year-old son, Jeremy, about my newest style, or his views on any new clothes I buy. I have to admit that it is very rare that I can find good clothes with a good fit for my full size body. Recently I have put on more then a few extra pounds, so right now I am overweight.
In the past when I would buy a new dress, I would ask Jeremy for his approval or at least his agreement that he thought Mommy looked pretty. I was never sure if Jeremy understood completely what I was trying to ask. Mostly he answered by shaking his head or continuing to nod; Just those two actions, nothing more. It was funny to see.
I remember, last month, I asked him about my appearance before going to the wedding party of a friend. Every time I tried something different on, I asked him, did mom look pretty? Unfortunately he kept shaking his head, so I decided to change and wear something different, but he still kept shaking his head. So I changed my clothes again until finally he nodded his head. He helped me so much. However, since I put on weight, Jeremy always shakes his head when I ask him how I look. It is difficult to get perfect clothes for my recently fuller sized body.
So, here I am trying to find great clothes that can make my son nod his head when I ask him about my appearance. I know for sure that if he nods his head when asked about my appearance, it must mean I look good in whatever it is I am wearing. His eyes seem so bright and innocent when they look at me, but I know they tell the truth.
So, if you want to know the honest truth about how you really look, even if only conveyed by a nod or a shake of the head, why don’t you try the same way as me? Why not try asking your own child if you really want to know the truth...
Somehow my life has been reduced to buying clothes and groceries. Usually when I feel stressed out, the only thing that helps is to go to every shopping center in town and shop for groceries and clothing! Shop till I drop! Let me be honest – I only mention groceries as it somehow makes my life sound more interesting! I have no problems whatsoever in the grocery department! I know the kind of food I like. I know how to prepare it, and, most importantly, when and when not to indulge myself with luxurious and exotic cuisines. Groceries are easy to obtain, and when, like carrots, they happen to sport bright, interesting colors, I pretty much take that as a sign of freshness, and should the carrots also come super sized... well, that’s even more to enjoy!
Of course the opposite, more or less, can be said of my clothing. I have made peace with my body. I stopped wishing for a waif-like body eons ago. However, I still find it hard to find something that I really like even though my demands are modest; something that doesn’t closely resemble a tablecloth found in the maternity section of Wal-Mart would be wonderful. Better yet, something that doesn’t look drab compared to whatever the life and soul of the party is wearing!
I know that a lot of people, even smaller-sized, find it hard to discover that special garment – you know, the one that fits so perfectly and looks so winning that all eyes are turned in admiration! Yes, even a waif-sized person can be uncertain about her wardrobe. Fundamentally, there is no point in whining about this fact – but yes, I wish everything could be as simple and as satisfying as buying a fresh carrot!
Well, the sun is shining, the sky is blue and the weekend ahead is long and party-filled - but - oh ... what to wear?! I am so looking forward to the beach for memorial day weekend, but finding the right cover up can be such a challenge. As a plus sized lady who loves quality clothing - I am up for the challenge - I know what clothing works on me and I am determined to look good - wait - I am determined to look better then good - let's just say, fabulous. I will waft into my Saturday afternoon barbecue in my stunning new caftan and I will look superb. As long as I feel good, I know I will have fun and feel great too!
Feeling sluggish, and wanting inspiration, I found myself skimming through pages of old magazines. Like many people these days, I turn to the net for my fill of information and tidbits. It's a matter of things that I want against things that someone else says I need. Maybe if Cosmo or People suddenly think that plus size fashion is the norm instead of running it under a side-feature article.
Of course, knowing how they are, they would probably write it as if it was a survival guide. Something that your livelihood depends on. Your career will not advance if you don't do what they think you should.
My survival policies in personal fashion seem to revolve around the simple rule to not look ridiculous. Ranging from the obvious to the sublime, it’s taken for granted by everyone. For instance, a ten gallon hat just won’t cut it. You’ll run the risk of being accused of taking things to their literal extreme if you wear a tank-top. A big belt with huge buckle will only work if you're from Texas or your name happened to start with an “E” and ends with an “lvis” and you have a penchant for turning people's attention to your hip area.
Reading what I just read, I’m pretty glad that the mainstream world has not picked up on my actual needs and personal wants. Part of the charm of plus size fashion is that they require personal wisdom. Personal wisdom is a pearl when you share it in a personal way, distributing it to the masses makes it look like a survival tool to a hostile world.
Yes, life is far easier when you can tuck a strip of news about the wild doings of a rich socialite in a far away corner of an unknown server than to discard it in a soon to be forgotten pile somewhere in the corner of your private space. Having said that, I think I’m gonna gather all those magazines, put it somewhere where it’ll lend a neat appearance to my place and then fix myself a tad late supper.
Summer is almost here. It's time for the beach, skimpy bathing suits and tanned skin. Maybe I will attract some attention from the opposite sex. The beach is always a good place for the summer. In fact the beach is such a good place, you'll simply forget about your skimpy bathing suit and everyone else, and just enjoy yourself.
Bathing suits tend to make people self conscious. I see a lot of people feeling awkward coming out of the changing room. The awkwardness soon wears off though. I don't think it has anything to do with their body, it's the fact that they are revealing more to the public than they are used to, and that makes them feel uncomfortable. As for me...the beach is a great place, so I'll forget about the others and enjoy myself.
Some quick tips though - Plus size swimwear thrives on accessories and accents. Often times, they tend to cast a plain look on their wearer. While I rarely fuss over my bathing suit, I fuss a lot over my sunglasses. Frames that make me look smart and don't make me look like a nerd on the beach, is a must, even if it means I have to ransack the entire catalog for it. What can I say, the beach is a good place for the summer...so good, that I'll go the extra mile to enjoy myself. And I enjoy looking and feeling good about myself.
Last night, on the way to the movies, my friend and I got into a discussion about clothes. We are both large women (3x), so we were discussing plus size clothes. She likes button down shirts with a sleeve below the elbow. I like tops without collars and I have to have buttons. Since she is taller than I am, she likes them about 34 inches (past her hips) and I like them at 28 inches. So, we figured out we can swap clothing, just not shirts. LOL.
We were on a lunch break and the subject of anorexic fashion models suddenly cropped up. Marie, my co-worker, expressed her anger against them and towards the industry so firmly that it took us by surprise. As Jane put it afterwards, It made you think she used to be a skinny model herself. I have to admit that I tend to turn a blind eye toward the fashion industry in general. Be it the latest DKNY or the latest brand in plus size design; I AM NOT POSSESSED BY CLOTHES. I am not glued to MTV House of Style. I am not ideologically driven enough to like Notorious B.I.G or Missy Elliot over other musicians like - The Artist formerly known as Prince - or P. Diddy. (Yes, I can not help picking them both for being skinny and having the same identity crisis.) Anyway, being one of those “I buy a dress not a brand image” person I tend to distance myself away from the industry. Especially since they never cater to my needs. Maybe that is what strikes us as strange in Maries opinion. Instead of commenting objectively, she commented as if she has a personal vendetta against the fashion industry. I got more out of that lunch break then lunch!
I just came home from a little "after work" clothing shopping spree and enthusiastically tried everything on I bought (in the comfort and privacy of my apartment). Lo and behold, how everything looked less satisfying than when I tried them on in the store's changing room. No changes had occurred to my purchases of course, the black dress and blazer still look like the latest thing in plus size fashion. They still enhance my professional look and I still appear to have my usual "smart self " look when wearing them... YET, they do look a tad different. The colors are a slightly off, as if the taxi ride from downtown to my apartment uptown has caused them to fade. The ride uptown has worn me down considerably, as well. So it might be me, looking more tired and worn out than I was when trying them on in the store. But when I was putting my new clothes away in my dressing closet (yes, I only bought a black dress and a blazer, that’s how compulsive I am when it comes to shopping for clothes) it occurred to me that the lighting in the store did make my complexion look a tad different, as well. So, I’m going to blame it all on the lighting and hope my new clothes will look just like the way they looked at the store under tomorrow’s sunny sky.

Vertical lines draw the eye up and down and make you look taller and slimmer. Some examples we use to create a more flattering look are vertical closures, princess seams (especially those that meet the shoulder seam), vertically placed trim, vertical darts, and vertical tucks and front keyhole necklines.
The problem with horizontal lines is they cause the eye to pause and look you over, so they tend to give the impression of width.
Our Divinely Dress is a good example of a slimmer looking garment. The princess seams begin at the shoulder and move to the front. Try to choose fashions that use these techniques.
The goal of all plus-sized design is to emphasize your positive attributes and distract from those you feel are less desirable. The key- here is that you and only you get to decide what you like or don't like. You may wish to enhance your face, hands. bustline, legs, and so on. Or you may not want to emphasize your bustline, belly, or upper arms. Comfort levels vary from woman to woman. Someone with a large backside, for example. may wish to call attention to it with bows or other design features, while another woman might want to distract from it by decorating other parts of a garment to draw the eye away from that area.
The average clothing size worn by women in this country is a size 14. If you wear any size larger than a 14, you are plus sized, and you're in great company. Nearly half of all women in the United States are plus sized, too! Plus¬sized women come in all ages, in all sizes of large, and in a wide range of income levels and occupations, from socialite to factory worker, business executive to suburban homemaker. Most large women lead very busy, full, and ordinary lives. We need clothes for work, play, and special occasions just like our skinny sisters.
Plus size tops for women usually come in only one length. These plus size fashions tend to fit a women who is 5'5" or more. The measurement is determined from the top of the shoulder (TOS) to the shirt's bottom. As sizes go up the lengths of the shirt needs to increase from 1" to 2". Most women who are 5'4" tend to like a length that can vary from 27" - 30" for a 1X size. Women over this height prefer 30"=31" for a 1x. When purchasing a top keep in mind your height, because this can determine the length of the shirt. Of course bathing suit covers should be determined by your personal taste.
At GenerousFashions.com we offer tops for the petite plus size and regular plus size women. However some petite women really like an oversize long casual shirt and this can look great too. In this example, black might be a good choice for longer top lengths. Our petites start at 27" and go up. Our regular sizing for 3x can have a generous length of 33"-34" (this is kind of nice because it will go pass the hips).
Did you know that average height for an American woman is actually 5'4"? And the average clothing size for women in America is size 14?
Most clothing manufacturers only offer up to size 16. And the clothes they produce often do not allow for ease and can be very tailored. This is a problem for larger size women.
On the other hand, some Plus Size stores create just the opposite - Big, Oversized, Long and Loose fitting clothing. Yes, these clothes will fit you, but is it the "look" you want? It's ok for causal attire about the house and taking the day off from work clothes, but there should be other options. Consider this:
When looking for a better fit clothing company try to search for plus size stores that don't under or over cut at the chest, armhole and especially at the hip. It is better not to have the same chest and hip measurement. For example if you are a 1x and your chest measurement is 46" all the way around and you have wide hips add at least 4" or a total of 50".
This is a pretty good formula for one layer garments -- plus size tops, blouses, shirts and tanks. Especially if you are considering thin cottons, organic rayons and silks.

It was a pleasure meeting you, too. I'm very glad that you were at the convention.
I love my new jacket and I look forward to seeing the new winter collection. It is so nice to find better quality clothing that fits. You are doing a great job! I just may have to take a trip to Long Island.
Take care and best wishes, Nancy
(Nancy is from CT and she bought one of my hand painted silk caftan jackets. I really liked her. It is so wonderful when someone really understands what you are doing. I hope I will see here again.)
Dear Stephen,I'm registering my daughter into college and we went shopping in Santa Monica. I am wearing my black silk print kimono top. The guy in the store says, "great top, where did you buy it?" Of course, I told him you designed it and I found you in Long Island on the internet. My daughter said, "I told you you look pretty in that, Mom". So thank you,Patty
(I never met Patty. We just chatted on email. When I got her comments I knew I was on the right path!)
Our plus size sweaters are made of only 11% wool. This low content keeps the body warm but not over heated. We have designed the flower button, trumpet sleeve and french fringe sweaters. They were machine made by a small family business in the beach village of Kuta in Bali, Indonesia.
